Mohammad Cartoon, Meet Jesus Cartoon

While personally I think this whole matter bloody silly --- apparently CNN (an American network, mind you) has been showing the so called “Mohammad” cartoons on the air in pixilated form, exactly how Al Jazeera has been showing them --- CNN says they are doing this “as to not offend viewers.” Amazing given they wouldn’t think twice about offending Christians.

To make their point all the more ridiculous --- Palestinian gunmen shut down the EU office in Gaza and made threats to kidnap or shell Europeans.

I thought I’d be fair to my Muslim friends and post a cartoon of Jesus.

Or for CNN ...

Cute, but your comments and cartoons obscure the fact that in Islam any visual representation of Muhammad is considered sacrilegious, while Christianity has no such taboo on visual representations of Jesus. To be sure, Christians would be offended by, well, offensive portrayals of Jesus, but historic Christianity does share Islam's radical aniconic bent.

I do realize they view it as offensive; I more disapprove of how some Muslims are showing it.

Yes, it's true that you'll find some mighty crazy Christians out there too, that will get upset about quite similar things --- of course, and they too --- are ridiculous.

Nowhere in the Koran does it forbid drawings of Mohammad. You're catering to the crazy religious interpretations of insane madmen if you censor yourself. Anyone who resorts to violence to censor a viewpoint deserves to have it thrown right back in his or her face.

But as a christian I can tell you I'm pretty offended by the church burnings that have occured. Actually I'm pretty offended by the death threats and other general evil the offend muslims have made. OH but wait those are only the extremist and I shouldn't hold the muslim world accountable for that. But they are calling for a boycott of a whole country, which ironicly has an Islamic population too.
