Attention Young Earthers: Snakes Had Hips!

It will be interesting to see what happens with Young Earth Creationists get a hold of this ...

Once upon a time, snakes had legs. A new discovery reveals at least one had hips, too.

The newfound fossil could help scientists piece together the murky evolutionary history of snakes. Until now, the prevailing thought was that early snakes were already lacking legs when they slithered out of water and onto land.

That may not be true, however. The newly discovered species, Najash rionegrina, lived around 90 million years ago in Patagonia, Argentina. Scientists unearthed Najash from continental sediments, suggesting it led a life on land.

So these scientists believe that a) snakes may not evolved from marine reptiles but instead terrestrial ones b) they used to have legs, and surely hips.

How long do you think it will take for Young Earths to say this proves the Genesis 3 account? Ha, that should be fun.

The LORD God said to the serpent,

"Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.

Gen 3:14

On a side note someone once told me that Gen 3:14 relates to pi 3.14 and therefore pi was actually demonic --- I told him “that’s just circular reasoning” --- he just looked back at me blankly.

I didn't know what was worse, that fact that he thought that it was related to 3.14 or that he didn't get my pun :(

Reminds me of the cajun boy who went off to college. When he was home for Christmas, his father asked him what he was studying in college. "I'm studying trigonometry!" the young man proudly replied. "Speak some trigonometry for us, son," the father requested. The boy thought for a moment, cleared his throat, and said, "Pi r squared." His father looked at him strangely, thought for a moment himself, and then said, "Boy, we gonna take you outta that college. They teaching you wrong. Pie are round. Cornbread are square."

But on the topic at hand, it can't be a coincidence that the biblical Eden serpent is nachash, and the Patagonian snake is Najash? Why, on many English keyboards, you even get a cheth by typing j ...
